Wavelength partners with real estate and construction companies to deliver impactful, complex, and beautiful lighting projects. Our work drives the built environment forward, modernizing the way we control lighting while making real estate of all kinds more energy efficient. The company has two business units (Distribution and Retrofits) headed by seasoned individuals, and we work with developers, general contractors, and electrical contractors building a diverse array of projects. About the role
Wavelength seeks an entrepreneurial Chief Operating Officer to manage all aspects of the company’s operations. The COO will be a strategic member of the Wavelength management team and will collaborate closely with the CEO. The ideal candidate understands how to build and guide teams and is prepared to be a leader at Wavelength, both internally and in the marketplace. The COO has extensive experience in construction or real estate, knows the stakeholders in New York City and beyond, and speaks the language unique to the industry. Wavelength is growing rapidly, and the COO will be essential to Wavelength achieving its objectives over the next five years.
Responsibilities
Executive leadership
Manage Wavelength’s teams: Ensure the Distribution and Retrofit teams are staffed and coordinated effectively, facilitating cross-business unit collaboration to enable growth
Represent Wavelength externally: Engage with Wavelength’s partners, clients, and the industry at large, communicating the company value proposition and understanding the evolving needs of the market
Strategy
Craft our growth strategy: Collaborate closely with the CEO to develop a 3-5 year growth plan, set strategic priorities, and establish metrics to track progress
Improve service offerings: Leverage deep knowledge of the construction industry to evolve Wavelength’s offerings to match customer needs
Finance
Oversee our budget: Collaborate with management to monitor accounting and day-to-day financial health of the business and forecast budget to achieve financial goals
Investor relations: Potential to support possible future fundraising efforts and build relationships with investors
People Management
Grow the team: Recruit and onboard new talent as Wavelength scales
Spearhead team development: Ensure team members are continually learning and progressing and facilitate performance management processes
Who we are looking for:
You’re passionate about our mission of modernizing the way we control lighting while making real estate of all kinds more energy efficient
You have deep knowledge of how the New York City construction marketplace works, and you have firsthand experience managing construction processes. You understand how commercial buildings are managed, how projects are budgeted and approved, and the typical challenges associated with work in occupied commercial space. You also know how general contractors award projects and understand procurement processes
You’ve built teams. You understand that a successful company is its people and believe that recruiting, managing, and supporting those people is mission-critical
You’re entrepreneurial. Wavelength is still in a mode of 2X or greater growth per year, and that means evolving challenges and changing responsibilities. Once established within the company, you should feel that Wavelength’s growth and success is your growth and success
You embody Wavelength’s culture of kindness and professionalism. Leadership in the company means holding people accountable, but doing so in a way that maintains Wavelength’s successful record for being a great place to work
Job details:
Full time position ; annual salary of $140,000-$160,000 plus benefits and performance incentives
Hybrid position; office in Downtown Brooklyn
